I am an economic historian of Africa and Asia, with a particular interest in structural change, living standards and trade. I completed undergraduate degrees in history and economics at the Australian National University, and a masters’ degree at the Institut de hautes études internationales et du développement in Geneva. I completed a PhD at the University of Cambridge as a student at Sidney Sussex College under the supervision of Professor Gareth Austin. My thesis was awarded the Ellen Mcarthur Prize for best dissertation in Economic History. I am presently a postdoctoral researcher at Wageningen University and Research, and a non-resident fellow at the East Asian Bureau of Economic Research
